Dzibichaltún

Visit the archaeological ruins of one of the largest cities in Mesoamerica and the Museo del Pueblo Maya; see the impressive Templo del Sol and the Franciscan chapel from the 16th century. Dzibilchaltún is located at kilometer 14 of the Mérida-Progreso highway and means "Place where there is writing on the stones", due to the numerous commemorative tombstones found. Its settlement dates from the year 500 BC. until the arrival of the Spanish in 1540. Find here a pre-Hispanic city, an eco-archaeological park.
