Staff was very accommodating. Resort not big as I thought but still pleasant. No problem with food or drinks. Just remember you should tip. These people only make $6 a day. There's a cute Cantina next the theater that no one knows us open at night. It was dead but we enjoyed it and our bartender was great. The lobby is crowded at night and I guess no one knows about it. The food is great, lots to chose from. I went with a friend but seemed to be mostly couples and family. The beach was right there, but the conditions were harsh. So, swimming wasn't an option this trip. Overall great trip... food and service.
We returned home yesterday after an excellent week of great customer service, food, entertainment and pampering. My husband and I were extremely pleased. Your people make the difference. Lucia, Edgar, Manuel, JJ, Marco, Arlee, Robert and Justane were outstanding! The beach was fantastic!
Every day was a new adventure and experience. Definitely plan on returning to this amazing resort.
My last visit was sep 2015, but the prompts would not allow for such a late review. I understand why though. Anyway, we have been 3 times, first back in 1994 or 95, then in 1999 and most recently in 2015. We (husband and I) love the location the grounds and most importantly the people. It was not always an all inclusive, we discovered on our last visit that it now is. That was a very enjoyable way to experience the hotel, nice to not have to keep up with expenses. Unlike most all inclusive concepts that do buffets and limited choices, you can order real entrees from the menu from a large variety of restaurants on site. We love the look and casual feel of this hotel and the experience of a stay here surpasses it's price point. There are a lot of fancier and more luxurious appointed properties in Cancun and if that is very important to you, this may not be the place for you. I'm not saying that to disparage the condessa at all, i just know how picky people can be. The hotel is clean, has an immaculate beach, superb location and good food and wonderful staff. We always talk of another trip to Cancun as it is one of our favorite destinations and we will certainly return to the condessa and love it just as we did 20+ years ago.
The hotel was wonderful. The staff was extremely accomodating. The grounds were kept in amazing order, and the beach in front of the hotel clean and well kept. Would definitely go back and stay on my next vacation.
"Disappointing the Second Time Around"
We recently made our second visit to the Condesa, having stayed at the resort in 2014. Having enjoyed the Condesa in 2014 (see prior review), we looked forward to returning. Unfortunately, the 2017 Condesa was not equal to the 2014 Condesa.
The primary area of improvement is the appearance of the physical plant. Extensive remodeling has been done to the rooms and common areas. In 2014 it was looking a little dated. That has now been remedied.
As for the food, it was pretty average all around, with the Italian restaurant the best of the bunch. The new steakhouse is a good idea, but the steaks were average at best and the service was substandard. Also, the wood fire cooking area is so poorly vented that it smokes and stinks up that entire end of the building.
We were also disappointed by the housekeeping. Not once did we receive anything "special" along the lines of a rice greeting or towel folding. Also, a dirty plate was in our room for at least two days before we left. There was also a loose piece of trash/plastic on the steps near our unit for 4 or 5 days.
Another problem involved our status at the property. We booked through Expedia and we're under the impression we would be VIP status as with our last visit. 3 separate resort employees told us they would look into it and get back to us. No one ever did.
Also, on our check-in we were told housekeeping would push our beds together. When it didn't happen, I reminded them on day 3. Finally, it happened on day 5 after yet another reminder to the front desk.
Midway through our stay a mother- daughter alcohol and mental health driven domestic violence incident occurred two units down. We tried to contact someone in the hotel but gave up after 5 or 6 rings. We then headed down the hall and arrived just as two employees arrived. We then spent at least an hour trying to defuse the situation with relatively minimal involvement by the employees. My primary concern is that neither employee was a security officer. In that type of a situation (which would have resulted in at least 1 arrest in the US), it concerns me that in a place like that that there was no security present or available.
Also, we got pressed by two separate concierges about the vacation club, something we didn't have to deal with before. Also, some of the waiters pushed the extras like US steaks and lobster. I can read the menu, you need not bring a live lobster or tray of steaks to my table.
As far as outstanding service, Oscar in the Italian restaurant, bellhop Daniel, pool waiter Diego and Guadalupe in the snack shop were all great.
Reading the reviews of others, it would appear that our experience was the exception to the rule and that's regretful. I'd have loved to repeat our 2014 experience and developed a fondness for the resort that would result in us returning, but it just didn't happen.
