During our week in Cancun, we visited the La Palapa Restaurante in the Fiesta Americana several times. Good selection of food and great service. Thanks so much to Gerson, Maria-Clara, Luis, Osinis, Gaudencio, Fernando, Guadalupe, Lous and Tuz. You all made our experience enjoyable and memorable.
Hotel is a bit dated but construction is in progress. We do not like the hustle and bustle of larger hotels so the size was perfect. Thanks!
Good location to walk to local restaurants, shopping and night life. Lots of water activities for extra cost offered off the properties. Been advised to buy tour trips at your hotel and not off the vendors on the street. If you like white wine, bring your own or find a liquor store to buy some.... a lot of places don't serve Pinot Grigio or Champagne :) Xplore is a must to do while in Cancun/Riveria Maya location.
"Thanksgiving away from home..."
The staff here is very attentive and friendly and the property is kept clean. It is undergoing upgrades but that didn't hinder our stay. It was our 1st family vacay away for the Thanksgiving Holiday BUT we didn't feel as though we missed anything. Our chambermaid, Rosita left us a beautiful note wishing us a Happy Holiday along with a turkey decoration made from different colored rice and she left us some bite size treats as well.
The recreation staff and restaurant staff were equally diligent in making sure that we enjoyed our stay. If anyone of them were ever having a bad day, we never would have known it. They checked in with us daily and always wore smiles. The recreation staff made sure to include our 14 & 15 yr old in the daily planned activities.
I cannot recall everyone's name who made sure that we enjoyed our stay, but those that come to mind: Roberto, Santino, Rafaela, Gerson, Honora, Victor.
We were there 11/19-26
"Not your best option in Cancun"
Problems with the room/reception:
Me and my family just came back from family vacations in Cancun.
Since the reservation we had made it clear that we were a family of 4 staying in one room. We checked in at the hotel at 1 am and our room had only one king bed and a sofa that was not yet ready for us to sleep in. We had to call for room service and it took as at least 1,5 hours to be ready to rest. In addition, our toilet flush was broken and the bathroom sink was clogged.
The next day my husband called the hotel and asked for a change of rooms. It was a drama!!! The house keeper woke us up at 8 am (during vacations) to tell us that we were changing rooms. We had to leave our room at 10 am and the reception told us that we would not get another room until 3 pm. At 6pm when we got to the reception they were surprised because they "didn't have any change scheduled"and after a looooooong search they found our new room. It took 4 tries until they gave us a key that would actually open the room.
The beach is not the best you can get in Cancun - they have a concrete deck next to the sea, instead of the beautiful Caribbean sand.
My sister didn't feel good on day and ordered room service. After one hour her food arrived, but.... she was asked to pay immediately and they only took cash. Since she was going to pay with the credit card, she had to change clothes and leave the room to reach the reception and pay. If she wanted to leave the room we would have gone to a restaurant!!! That's a joke!!!
When she came back to the room the food was already cold.
Besides, when she passed her credit card to pay for a hamburger (like USD 10) , they blocked 3.000 pesos on her credit card ( USD 150) because of hotel policy in case she consumed anything else.
If you ever come to Cancun, choose somewhere else!
I had been to Intercontinental Presidente previously and the experience was a lot better!!!
"Decent, but nothing to brag about"
Stayed in a Deluxe Villa standard room with ocean view from the balcony. Room was clean, had small fridge and microwave. Bed was very firm - great for back sleepers, but not so much for side sleepers like me. Bathroom was clean, toiletries provided, but shower pressure was incredibly light. It took so long to rinse myself. I had trouble with noisy guests next door, fortunately, not the entire time. The place is still under construction, but noise was minimal. Big hotel next door plays very loud music until 11:30 PM or so. If you're an early bird, it might annoy you. The property is not a hotel, per se; it's a timeshare property. No complimentary coffee, so I walked across the street to buy some for a few days.
Happy hour starts at noon with 2-for-1 drinks, which were watered down. Poolside entertainment consisted of water aerobics in the pool, and Bingo. The beach was clean and seaweed free. Vendors were respectful.
The one thing that did bother me was that Housekeeping ignored the "Privacy Please" sign on my door. They did this twice. The second time, I specifically talked to her and told her I did not need the room cleaned. When I returned to my room later, there she was cleaning. I'm very private, and I like to put stuff away when I know someone else will be accessing my room. I noticed that someone else complained about that. It makes me wonder why housekeeping would still enter a room even though they were asked not to. Maybe Management insists. Anyway, that's the review. Take it for what it's worth.
