This was my tenth year at this hotel and I still can't say enough good things about it. I am treated like family the minute I exit the cab and it continues until I leave. The staff is warm and welcoming and very helpful. This year they have started some renovations. New double paned sliders were being installed during our stay to muffle the noise which has always been a problem on the weekends. New bathrooms are on the way also. I am excited to see what else they have in store for us next year when we return.
"My Birthday in Acapulco"
The rooms are great. All of the floors are marble and the rooms were decorated nicely. Mine was overlooking the east side of the bay and the farthest out toward the ocean, offering a really nice view and being as far away from the street as possible. That whole wall facing the balcony is glass doors, which is really nice. I was able to see the view from bed every night as I fell asleep. The balconies are more than ample with a nice awning to keep the sun from beating down. The pool area is very nice. The main pool is quite large with some shallow areas to put some lounge chairs. Service out there is great. They'll bring you pretty much anything you want. There are stairs to the west side down to another pool and then down to the beach. I used these every day because I wanted a taste of the beach and of the pool. Security is pretty good at the steps and around the pool to keep non-guests from wandering through. Every day I watched the sun rise from my room and watched it set from the pool area overlooking the beach. So beautiful!
I didn't try much of the food so I won't comment on that, preferring to try out the local restaurants instead. I also made use of the fridge and microwave in my room for snacks or for when I felt too lazy to wander out for food. There is a nice Soriana grocery within walking distance to the east. Coffee is provided in the room, as are plates, glasses, bowls, silverware, opener, and even a toaster! The hotel's water is potable but I figured out that you can ask the maids for bottles, which I preferred. The sheets and bedding are quite comfy. I always slept well, except for Saturday night, which is apparently party night. There was a bar somewhere out on the avenue that played some loud thump thump music until 7AM!!!! Every other night all I could hear was the ocean and the AC. It was just that one night that was loud. There was a large flat screen TV in my room but I didn't use it because everything was in Spanish. The staff here is Totally Awesome. Everyone was friendly and eager to offer assistance. The guys often greeted me with a nod and a hand to their heart. I'm sure they're told to do this but I found it endearing anyway. It still felt sincere. The taxi drivers out front are very nice and will take you anywhere you want to go for a fair price. You can even haggle on price if you wish. If you're needing a round-trip ride, they will often wait for you instead of taking another fair in between. Unheard of in the US!! They are so nice.
The only negative of my stay was the day after my birthday there was a murder across the street from the hotel on the steps that lead up to Condessa Gym. I was in the pool when I heard pop, pop, pop.....and then pop, pop, pop. I looked around to see the reactions of others because I wasn't certain I was hearing a gun or just what that was. I looked up and people were coming out on their balconies to have a look at the street. I got out of the pool and traipsed through the lobby and over to the median to see a man shot to death lying on the steps across the street and several police and military folks form various agencies directing traffic away. This was quite unnerving to me but from I understand not so uncommon a thing to happen in today's Acapulco. This was a shock to me as the last time I was here it wasn't like that. You will now see military and police with very large guns roaming the hotel area constantly. It seemed odd to see them at first because I don't see that at home at all. You get used to it after a while. From what I hear the killings are always about drugs, or about unpaid extortions. They're not random shootings at schools, theaters, etc. like we have in the states. The targets are specific, but still the dead bodies can be a shock. Certainly the hotel had nothing to do with this but I realize it is something that you may now encounter when visiting Acapulco.
"Acapulco Americana Villas"
Terrific place and I had the Presidential suite - 3 bedrooms on the 16th floor.
The concierge Diana was really the best because she was always available to help you with your questions and to arrange tours or special events.
Also Brenda the hotel manager was really open and accommodated us a couple of times when we had a few issues.
The taxi driver Oscar was always available and ready to give you a wonderful tour around Acapulco.
Planning to go again next year because the weather is perfect everyday and the beach is so beautiful and the food is excellent.
