I stayed here two njghts while visiting the area. Check in could have been better, I prebook my reservation and upon check in the agent tried to sell me on upgrading. They did not allow me to check in early even though hotel had low occupancy. Our stay included a breakfast for two. We were surprise the breakfast for the third person was almost 20 dollars. Talk about over pricing. We had drinks at the bar and bar maid Betty was great. She made us great cocktails and was very pleasant with the group. Ate lunch at the bar area and it was good and well price. The pool was the main reason I booked at this hotel and it did not disappoint. I would probably would stay here again. The area is quite nice. The beach is not that great. The room we was not remodel but it was comfortable.
"We didn't want to leave!"
My husband and I stayed for just a couple of nights after a trip for medical purposes, in which we stayed at a hospital for the majority of our trip. We were looking for a place in Veracruz on the water, modern, restaurant on-site, bar on-site, and it had to have a shuttle service to the airport. This hotel had it all and so much more! We have decided to book here again when we are ready for a getaway. The staff was wonderful the entire time, and it truly helped that most spoke English and were very understanding of our *little* bit of Spanish. -- The room we stayed in was one of the updated ones (they are working on updating some rooms still) and it was amazing. The pool and Gulf views were truly spectacular, the beds were very comfortable, and the bathrooms were perfect. The pools were clean and picturesque; the swim-up bar was a nice addition as well. The on-site restaurant was perfect as we could order from there for room service or go down ourselves. Very, very good brunch buffet!
"An OK oasis, maybe?"
We came here with a large group from work and went on a couple of little field trips in town. The rooms are beautiful - standard size but nicely decorated. The lobby is also very pretty. The interior doesn't match the outside at all, either the facade or the pool area, both of which seem dated and shabby, so maybe they are in the middle of renovations.
The pool is large, although not nearly as large as photos will have you believe. The deck chairs and tables are old and droopy and shabby. By the time we got to the pool the afternoon of our arrival, it was no fun swatting away cigarette butts and half eaten food from the chairs. The half eaten food trash would continue to be an issue given the aggressive birds who came in for leftovers and pooped on stuff in general.
The pool bar is incredibly slow, given that there always seemed to be as many people working in it as waiting for service. It took at least twenty minutes to get a soda, a warm Corona, and a frozen margarita ... and that was as literally one of two customers actively trying to get the attention of one of the three or four guys working the bar. Totally ridiculous.
We had the breakfast buffet two mornings, totally standard and fine. Room service one night was adequate but I wasn't going to order it again. The first day there we stopped in for a quick bite after a long drive and one of our party had to send a dish back because part of it was still frozen, it was taken off the bill with no hassle.
The drive to the aquarium is desolate. The beachfront is either dying or never really took off. The beach by our hotel has been noted in other reviews as one of the best in the area, but I didn't set foot on it. My family wandered out and back without going in - sea urchin warnings and visible broken glass were a deterrent.
Overall I'd say the staff was very nice and helpful, except for at the pool bar. The rooms are super comfy. If you are in Veracruz anyway and just want to see the ocean and some pretty impressively huge ships (super neat) off I'm the distance, this is a good hotel. But given lots of other beautiful beach towns in Mexico, I can't imagine this being my top choice for a return trip.
"Good but not as exprcted"
Nice place great pool. Nice ground floor pool view room. Very nice but quite as expected. Restaurant food good not great... But service terrible. Booked 3 rooms and really fouled up reservation prices, etc. All mixed up... Took day to resolve.
